Abstract

712,714. Spring forks. WEBB & CO., Ltd., H. C., and TAYLOR, F. W. Sept. 29, 1952 [April 30, 1952], No. 10834/52. Class 136(3) In a spring suspension for the front wheels of cycles or similar light vehicles of the kind in which a supplementary wheel carrying spring fork 10 is pivotally connected by pairs of parallel links 16, 26 to the steering assembly, the supplementary fork 10 carries a cantilever bridge piece 34 which provides an abutment for a compression spring 42 housed mainly within the steering tube 13. The spring 42 is housed in a socket 43 having a shoulder part 45 which abuts a rubber buffer 48 seated on an L-shaped plate 39. An up-standing locating pin 41 for the lower end of the spring 42 is secured to the plate 39 and to the platform 37 of the bridge piece 34. A unitary link 26 connects the upper ends of the supplementary fork 10 to the crown 12 of a main fork 11. A hole 33 is formed in the link 26 for the passage of the shoulder 45 and rubber buffer 48. The plate 39 is secured to the platform 37 and is provided with an upturned lug 40 for the attachment of a caliper lever brake. A mudguard 49 may be attached to a flange 38 of the bridge piece 34. Oiling nipples 31 are provided for lubricating the pivot pins 25 of the link 26.
