Abstract
707,065. Bearings. GLACIER METAL CO., Ltd. Jan. 4, 1952 [April 6, 1951], No. 8040/51. Class 12(1) In the production of bearings and bearing elements, the surfaces are made porous by etching, sintering, phosphating or other chemical process, and the pores filled with a solid lubricant such as molybdenum disulphide, poly-tetra-fluoro-ethylene, lead di-iodide, boron-nitride &c. applied in colloidal suspension in water or other vaporizable liquid. The journal &c. is heated and placed in an air tight chamber which is exhausted to remove air from the pores, and the surface is then immersed in the suspension and subjected to atmospheric air pressure or air at a pressure of 100 lbs. per square inch for example to drive the lubricant into the pores. The surface is then dried to remove the carrier liquid and the whole cycle repeated, final compacting and burnishing being carried out by using steel wool, agate &c. The product may be hot or cold rolled.
