Abstract
A plain bearing comprises a metallic bearing surface layer having a porous structure at least the surface pores of which have been filled with molybdenum disulphide introduced into the pre-formed porous structure. The porous bearing surface layer may be sintered metal such as copper, and it may be bonded to a steel or other relatively strong backing. The molybdenum disulphide in the form of fine powder is introduced into the porous structure by a combination of vibration and light brushing, and thereafter the material is compacted by rolling or squeezing.
