Abstract

The material consists of a homogeneous mixture of a metal with Vickers hardness of 100 degrees to 2400 degrees and a lubricant with coefficient of friction of 0.002 to 0.300 which comprises 0.2 to 50 vol % of the total. The above ingredients are mixed in powder form with a metallic soap, pref. comprising 0.05 to 3% of the total, the mixture is compressed in a mould under 15 to cm2 max. pressure, heat-treated in a protective atmosphere and finished. The metal may be a single metal, alloy or pseudo-alloy, and the lubricant is pref. molybdenum, or tungsten, disulphides or graphite. The materials are suitable for bearings and similar applications, where wear due to friction occurs, and maintain their properties, between -200 degrees and 400 degrees C.
