Abstract

657,085. Bearings. GLACIER METAL CO., Ltd. Feb. 6, 1950, No. 2991. Addition to 657,080. [Class 12 (i)] A method of producing a plain bearing comprises applying a layer of poly-tetra-fluoroethylene on to the surface of a porous metallic structure produced by sintering metallic powder and forcing the poly-tetra-fluoro-ethylene into at least the surface pores of the metallic structure by the application of pressure. The pressing operation is carried out at a temperature of 250‹ to 300‹ C. and the poly-tetrafluoro-ethylene may be applied in the form of sheet or in powder form. The porous metallic structure may be copper, tin-bronze, leadbronze, lead-tin-bronze, silver, iron or cupronickel and may be bonded to a strong backing material such as steel or a non-ferrous alloy such as copper alloy.
