Abstract
In the production of ferro-manganese in a blast furnace in which a charge containing iron and manganese is reduced under a slag which contains Ca O, Mg O and Si O2, the ratio of Ca O+Mg O : Si O2 being 1.7 to 2.8 and the Mg O content of the slag being at least 3 per cent. as described in the parent Specification the contents of Mg O and Si O2 are reduced and the slag contains 18 to 30 per cent. Al2 O3. The Mg O content of the slag may be 5 to 8 per cent.
