Abstract
706,387. Seats. CRESCENT, H. A. Oct. 24, 1952 [Oct. 30, 1951], No. 26783/52. Class 52(2) In an X-frame chair in which the rear member of the seat is adjustable on the rear or back standards the means of adjustment are normally concealed by retaining members which lock the seat in adjusted position, the retaining members being constructed and arranged so that the chair appears to be a'fixed non-adjustable one. The side standards, each comprising a back member 2 and a front leg 1, are pivoted to the rear legs 6 at 7 and are provided with notches 19a, 19b, 19c into which the rear member 21 of the seat may be selectively engaged. These notches are arranged in recessed parts 23 and resilient retaining members 24 are adapted to fit such recessed parts so as to retain the member 21 in the notches. The members 24 also act as guides when the seat is adjusted into another pair of notches. A pivoted latch 27 is preferably provided to prevent the undesired movement of the retaining members 24, the latch engaging the cross-member 26 connecting the upper ends of the retaining members 24.
