Abstract
704,957. Partly magnetic switches; actuation of switches. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. Dec. 19, 1951 [Oct. 11, 1950], No. 24861/50. Class 38(5) A switch responsive to changes in fluid pressure comprises an armature exposed directly to the fluid and movable from a rest position in which it is held by magnetic attraction through a neutral position to a second rest position in which it is held by a second magnetic attraction. In the form shown in Fig. 1, explosions of gases in closed vessels are detected by the gas lifting an armature 29, which has a bleed hole in its centre, away from a ring magnet 26 and towards magnets such as 36a in which latter position it bridges contacts 30a, 30b. Fig. 3 shows a gust detector switch for use in aircraft. A sudden. rise in air pressure in pipe 65 moves vanes 70, 71, 72 into their other position in which contacts 61, 62 are bridged instead of 60, 61, or vice versa. A horse shoe magnet 52 attracts either vane 70 or 71. Closure of contacts 61, 62 operates a gust alleviating device and also a slow relay which changes over contacts so as to make 60 alive and 62 dead, so that the next gust is also detected and alleviated.
