Class 59 A roller-mill has a common control means 13, 21 for effecting movement of an adjustable grinding roller 2 into and out of grinding relationship with an axially-fixed grinding roller 3, adjustment of the rollers into parallel relationship and adjustment of the grinding gap between the rollers. Each roller 2 in a duplex mill is supported between levers 4 which can be rocked about pivots 5 to adjust the roller by rods 11 acting through spring means in housings 12. Cranks or eccentrics on a shaft 10 are connected to the rods 11 and to links 9 which can be operated to withdraw the roller' 2 from its grinding position or return it thereto. The links 9 are also coupled to cranks or eccentrics 8 on a shaft 7 bearing' in the ends of the mill and' carrying a collar 29 to which the control handle 13 is pivoted. The roller 2 is rocked into the grinding position by raising the handle 13 which is exposed for operation by removing a door, a spring-loaded detent 28 retaining the shaft 7 following this adjustment. One-sided or parallel adjustment of the grinding gap between the rollers is effected by swinging the handle 13 so that the hand-operated bevel gear 21 thereon engages either, or both, of the gears 19, 20 which are mounted on the shaft 7. The gears 19, 20 are coupled through sleeves 15, 16 with worms 17 meshing with worm wheels 18 adapted to engage threads on the rods 11 which are of two-part form and act as turn,buckles to shorten or increase their length and thereby adjust the roller 2. The Specification states that hydraulic, pneumatic or electrical transmission means may be used to adjust the roller.
