Abstract
200,437. Baker, Sons, & Perkins, Ltd., J., and Prescott, W. E. Nov. 21, 1922. Roller mills.-In a grinding or crushing machine having a screw eye or link threaded into a member of worm gear for adjusting a movable roller, means for separating the rollers without affecting their primary adjustment comprises a pin connecting a sliding bearing of the movable roller to the screw eye and having an eccentric portion journaled in a block slidable in an enlargement of the screw eye. As shown in a chocolate refiner, the roller 2 is mounted at each end in a block 3<a> which can be moved up and down in a vertical guide 4 by means of a screw-eye or link 7 which is mounted on a pin 6 passing through triangular lugs 5 on the block 3<a> and engages with interior threads in a worm-wheel 8 gearing with a worm 9 on a shaft 10 operated by means of a hand-wheel 11. The pin 6 is formed with an eccentric portion 12 carrying a sliding block 13 located in the enlarged end of the screw-eye 7. The pin 6 is rocked by an arm 14 connected by a link 15 to a handlever 16 mounted on a shaft 17. On raising the lever 16 to the upper position shown in Fig. 1, the bearing 3<a> and roller 2 are lifted away from the lower roller 3, the eccentric portion 12 of the pin 6 causing the block 13 to slide in the enlargement of the screw-eye 7 which remains stationary and vertical so that the adjustment set by the worm gear 8, 9 is not disturbed.
