Abstract

704,590. Brushes. MORTIMER, H. April 15, 1952 [March 25, 1952], No. 7628/52. Class 19 A method of making a brush of the type having fusible bristles (e.g. of nylon) comprises the steps of inserting the bristles through a ferrule A having an internal lateral fluting B, G. with the base of the bristles projecting from the ferrule, inserting longitudinally a wedge D to press the bristles against the ferrule, fusing the ends (F, Fig. 2,) of the bristles to unite them, moving the base of the bristles and the wedge into the ferrule, fusing the base of the bristles again so that the bristle material runs into the flute (F<SP>x</SP>, Fig. 3) and applying a layer of adhesive H over the base to assist in holding the base, the wedge and the ferrule together. The ferrule may be of metal or of the material known under the Registered Trade Mark "Perspex" and the wedge may have a fluted end to increase the holding effect of the adhesive. Pressure may be applied to the handle before the adhesive is set to take up any shrinkage.
