Abstract

792,571. Brushes. USK PATENT PRODUCTS, Ltd. June 30, 1954, No. 19116/54. Class 19. A paint or like brush has a pre-formed tuft of fusible bristles (e.g., of nylon) secured to the handle by means of a one-piece ferrule provided with an internal projection or a series of projections extending around its inner wall parallel to the outer edge and at a mean distance therefrom of one third to one half the length of the ferrule, the tufts having a pre-fused base which abuts the butt end of the handle and which is provided with a lip that abuts the projection or projections. As shown the projection is in the form of a groove 5 provided in each side of the ferrule and the bristles are further secured by an adhesive layer between the butt and the base of the bristle tuft and by a wedge 12 inserted between the bristles and held by means of a pin. Alternatively the central cavity in the base of the bristles may be filled with a hard setting adhesive. In an alternative arrangement, Fig. 1, (not shown) the projection on the inside of the ferrule is provided by a ring located in grooves provided in the walls of the ferrule.
