Abstract
704,274. Gas turbine plant. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. Aug. 29, 1952 [Sept. 4, 1951], No. 20825/51. Class 110 (3) A gas turbine plant comprises two gas turbine units, each of which consists of a high-pressure compressor directty coupled to a high-pressure gas turbine, an independently rotatable lowpressure gas turbine in alignment therewith and a combustion chamber. The low-pressure gas turbine 10 of one unit drives the useful load, such as a generator 11, whilst the low-pressure gas turbine 9 of the other unit drives an axially aligned low-pressure compressor 1 which discharges through an intercooler 2 into the inlets of the high-pressure compressors 3, 4 connected in parallel. A balancing duct 16 interconnects the outlets of the compressors 3, 4 and a valvecontrolled blow-off duct 12 connects the intercooler with the inlet duct of the compressor 1. A balancing duct or ducts 17, 18 is connected across the outlets of the high-pressure turbines 7, 8 as shown. The blade heights of the highpressure compressors and/or the high-pressure turbines may be adjusted to suit different mass flows required by the low-pressure turbines associated therewith.
