Abstract

703,861. Cradles for slinging cargo. STEVEDORES EQUIPMENT SERVICES CO., Ltd. June 4,1952 [May 21, 1951], No. 11774/51. Class 78 (4) The platform of a cradle for slinging carcases includes a rectangular metal frame the side members of which have upturned sled-like ends with means for attaching lifting tackle. In the construction of Fig. 1 the sides a, b are of " C " section and are joined by angle section members c, d and by a " #" section member a to which are welded " n section members h, i. The end portions a<SP>1</SP>, b<SP>1</SP> are of box section and are joined by tubes e, f on which are threaded thimbles m round which ropes n are spliced and which are held captive by stop plates l. Gusset plates c<SP>1</SP>, d<SP>1</SP> join the channel section members c, d to the end portions a, b<SP>1</SP> and the platform is completed by welded steel bands j, k, or alternatively by a wire mesh surface. In the construction of Fig. 2 the tubes p<SP>1</SP>, p<SP>2</SP> of each of three composite longitudinals are joined by spacing plates q and by bracing tubes p<SP>3</SP>. The longitudinals are joined by transverse tubes i and the outer longitudinals carry eyes s for engagement by lifting tackle. The platform is completed by a wire mesh t or by steel bands as in Fig. 1. According to the Provisional Specification the lifting ropes may pass through, and be suitably secured within, the tubular frame.
