Abstract
682,349. Trawling gear. PEARSON, J. S. June 8, 1951 [July 24, 1950], No. 18441/50. Class 48. A kite for lifting the headrope of a trawl net comprises a curved buoyant member at the forward end of a board e having an upwardly projecting rear end f and a central rudder g, the buoyant member being formed by securing a transversely disposed cylinder b in the open mouth of a metal sheath a. Apertures a' for the entrance of water to the sheath are formed by leaving gaps when welding the edge of the sheath to the cylinder. Two smaller cylinders of equal size are welded to the large cylinder b with their axes disposed parallel to and above the axis of the large cylinder, one small cylinder c being contained in the sheath, the other cylinder j being disposed aft of the large cylinder below the board e. The latter comprises a ribbed metal plate welded to a U-shaped tubular frame d welded to the large cylinder and upturned at its rear end f. The rudder comprises a vertical ribbed metal plate welded to a tubular keel h welded to the upturned end f of the frame d and to the undersides of the after small cylinder j and of the large cylinder b. The kite has eyes m on the after under surfaces of the large cylinder ends for the ropes that attach it to the headrope, Specification 328,113, [Class 48], is referred to.
