Abstract
336,438. V.D., Ltd., Dec. 4, 1928, [Convention date]. Trawling-gear.- The entrance of the rear pocket 1 of a trawling net i, provided with a rigid frame 9 which is directly attached to the boat by a crowfoot 11 and cable 12 or by the towing cables 3, 4 or by special cables 24 which pass inside the net and may be used to haul up the pocket. The pocket is detachable from the main body 2 which preferably comprises a sheet of half-funnel shape, the belly being omitted. The body 2 is adapted to bulge outside the cables 3, 4 and bear on the ground to drive the fish into the pocket. Arcuate members may be provided for bulging the net. To prevent the escape of fish an inwardly-directed screen may be placed over the top of the mouth of the net and vertical screens may be provided in the bulging sides. Triangular underwings 40, Fig. 3, may be removably attached to the cables 3, 4 and to the ground-rope 23 of the pocket. The arms of the net may be extended into wide wings the upper edges of which are reinforced by side cables attached either to the cables 3, 4 at a considerable distance in front of the net or direct to the shear boards. The strands of the side cables and the ground cables 3, 4 are wound in opposite directions. The cables 3, 4 may be weighted along their length to ensure contact with the ground.
