Abstract

Nets.-The lower parts of a trawl net are constructed of less width than the corresponding upper parts in such a way that the side ropes, which transmit the traction stress from the cod end of the net to the wing stretchers and traction cables, operate horizontally at the level of their attaching points. The net wings have the shape assumed by the ground rope and head rope. Fig. 3 shows the net spread in the water, A B<1> A<1> being the upper part and A B A' being the lower part. The net wings have the curve 0, C, R, Fig. 5, corresponding to the rope. This curve is obtained by using cords 6 of diminishing length, Fig. 6, or three, meshes a. b. c of diminishing length, Fig. 7.
