Trawling-gear. - The wings of the net are attached to the stretchers or otterboards so that with the latter vertical the wings assume their natural inclination. In Fig. 3 the head-rope 2 is connected to the otterboard 4 at the top inner corner a and the ground rope 3 at the lower outer corner c, The branches of the towing cable 8 are connected to the same corners of the board. The towing cable may have four branches attached to the four corners of the board. The head and ground ropes may have extensions beyond the net which leave spaces between the otterboards and the net and these extensions may be branched and connected to the boards so that the branchings lie in either vertical or horizontal planes. In Fig. 4<a> the ground rope 3 is connected to the otterboard 4 by means of a ring 3<a> slidable along a curved rod 3<c> attached to the board. A similar device may be used for securing the head-rope. Wing stretchers may be triangular or quadrangular boards or frames and may be provided with rollers as in Fig. 8. Similarly, frames with inclined members may be secured upon auxiliary otterboards at the net wings. To prevent the otterboard lying on its face when the trawler is stopped the otterboard may be provided with struts or bars such as 51, Fig. 14.
