Abstract
702,650. Trawling gear. STANSFIELD, J. Dec. 15, 1952 [June 14, 1952], No. 15027/52. Class 48 A towing gear for a canopy net g disposed above and in front of the mouth of a trawl net a or for the headline of a trawl net consists of cables h attached to the front border of the canopy net or to the headline and extending to and reverted around towed sheaves i, and means, for instance weights or drogues or drogue floats k, dragging their reverted portions. The sheaves i are attached by cables j to the towing warps d extending from the trawler to the otter boards c. Each drogue float k consists of a round-ended cylindrical body provided with one or more perpendicular fins l and with eyes m and a hole in the fin through which the forwardly extending part of the towing cable h or the towing warp d may be roved to guide the float. The two cables h and the two drogue floats may be replaced by a single cable and a single drogue float guided thereon. The reverted ends of the two cables h may be attached to a single drogue. A kite float may be interposed at the net end of each cable h.
