Abstract

703,843. Measuring and fitting boots &c. SIMPSON, W. G. Aug. 17, 1951 [Aug. 17. 1950], No. 20470/50. Class 17(3) A foot and shoe measuring device has associated foot and shoe engaging members operatively connected. A heel-engaging piece 19 is connected by a slotted tube 11 to a lastshaped member 20. A slider 16 moveable in the slotted tube 11 over shoe and foot scales 13, 14 has an upstanding toe-engaging pallet 18 and is connected by resiliently flexible inextensible spring-rods 62 to a toe piece 25 of the last-like member 20. The arrangement is such that with the slider set for the smallest foot size A the distance B is such that the member 20 will enter a corresponding correct sized shoe and when the slider is moved to the maximum size shown in chain lines 29 the toe piece moves correspondingly to 30. The additional handling of the rods 26 when the member 20 is inserted in a shoe helps to prevent the toe piece from being forced back. Spring rods 33, 34 attached to another slider 31 leave the sides of the heel part 21 of the member 20 to form a loop or girth band before being attached to the opposite sides of the part 21. By inserting the foot in the loop and adjusting the slider 31 the foot and corresponding shoe girth can be measured by scales, marked on the underside of the scales 13, 14, over which the slider 31 moves. Fig. 5 shows the end part of apparatus for indicating the shoe girth which comprises a last-like member 35 through which passes a spring-rod 37 to form a girth loop 38. The spring-rod 37 is connected to a slider which can be set to a shoe girth as measured by the slider 31 and the loop 38 and member 35 can then be fitted into a shoe to determine if it is of suitable girth. If desired the two girth bands may be incorporated in a single unit and be connected to a common slider. In a modified arrangement the rod 11 is mounted on a stand and the member 20 and associated parts are detachably connected to the slider 16.
