[Class 17 (iii)] A device for measuring a foot in terms of shoe size comprises a measuring stick 22 having heel-to-ball and heel-to-toe scales marked thereon in relation to a heel plate 18 fixed at right angles to the stick 22 at one end. A. toe plate 104 parallel to the plate 18 is supported by a pair of plates 46 adapted to be moved along a bar 38 against the action of a spring 48. This bar is set at an angle so as to increase the width sizes as the length sizes increase. A side plate 76 is mounted on the toe plate so as to move laterally thereon and parellel to the stick 22 on pivoted links as shown, one of the links being extended as a lever 82 and bearing an index to read against a width size scale 100 marked on a casing 98. A knob 58 on a plate 54 serves as a handle to open the device to permit the foot to be inserted, the plate 54 being slidable along a rod 10 and connected to the pins 42, 44 between the plates 46 which form the means for guiding the device relatively to the bar 38 by links 62, 66. The device may be made duplicate, as shown, so that both right and left feet may be measured simultaneously or reversible so that they may be measured in succession. In the former case, spring plates 14 connect the two heel plates 18, as shown, and lost motion slots 64, 68 are provided in the links 62, 66 to provide a degree of relative movement between the units The device is used with the foot in loaded condition resting on the floor or other surface the device being supported on feet on the heel plate and stick.
