Classes 18 and 66 The lid 4 of a metal, paper or cardboard carton or container &c. is secured to a cupshaped body 2 which is pleated throughout its height and has corrugations 3 around the upper part of the wall, by compressing flanges or peripheral portions of the lid into fluidtight contact with the upper part of the body. without the use of paste or cement. The lid may be dished and have a double flange 5, 6 as illustrated. The corrugations 3 may be of wave form as illustrated or rectilinear, or zig-zag. In a modification, a radially extending flange fits over, and its outermost part in doubled under, a flange on the body, both flanges being then folded downwardly against the rim of the body.
