Abstract
703,581. Vehicle fittings. O'CONNELL, T. M. A., HOUGHTON, E. L., and BOLTON, K. Nov. 20,1951 [Nov. 20, 1950], No. 27250/51. Class 78 (4) [Also in Group XXXIII] A platform for transferring and carrying freight comprises a floor 12 supported on a framework which slides on runners or tracks on the vehicle and means for detachably securing the floor and framework against movement. The framework comprises outer tubular bearers 4, intermediate bearers 5 and transverse tubular members 6, braced by diagonal members. The members 4 and 6 are joined by brackets 7 which are provided underneath with shoes, which engage runners 13 on the vehicle ; an upper guideway 14 is also provided. Bolts 16 secure the platform in the vehicle. The intermediate members 5 and members 6 are secured by brackets with shoes 10 which engage runners 15. on the vehicle. The framework has lateral uprights 18 which engage in sockets in the floor and frame, and have hooks 20 for securing means for the freight. The floor has recesses for a number of hinged eyes for securing the freight. In an alternative form the longitudinal members of the frame form tracks for rollers which extend below the floor and contact tracks on the vehicle; rollers mounted on vertical axes on the frame also contact the tracks. The floor may be in more than one unit and end buffers and cable means for drawing the frame and floor on to the vehicle may also be provided.
