Abstract

516,661. Railway wagons. EVANS, O. (Canadian Furnace, Ltd.). Nov. 5, 1938, No. 32154. [Class 103 (iv)] A wagon or like receptacle for the transport of hot iron pigs, steel billets &c. has its floor, sides and ends formed of steel or other non- inflammable bars 3, 10 supported so as to be capable of expansion individually and spaced at suitable distances apart to permit the circulation of cooling air. As shown, the floor is built up of a number of longitudinal used rails 3 supported in transversely disposed chairs 4 so as to leave gaps 5 for the admission of cooling air, while the sides 8 and ends 9 comprise vertical rails 10 mounted in sockets in the side and end sills 6, 7 and preferably detachably secured by rods 18 passed through aligned holes in the sockets and rails. The underframe is preferably strengthened by means of longitudinal side stiffening beams 13 tied by means of cross braces 14 to the central sill 15. Transverse bars 17 are disposed at a small height above the ends of the bars 3 so as to prevent the latter from beipg lifted out of place when a magnet is employed for unloading the pigs, billets &c.
