858,596. Transferring freight containers to and from aircraft. CARGON HOLDINGS Ltd. April 24, 1957 [Dec. 10, 1956], No. 15738/58. Divided out of 13105/57. Class 78 (4). [Also in Groups XXV and XXXIII] The usual floor of the load-carrying compartment of an aircraft is replaced by trolleys 33 (Fig. 22) the wheels 36 of which run on tracks 18 supported by structural members 4 of the aircraft. In the construction shown the trolleys 33 are held in contact with the guides by members 20 on the sides of the compartment, and when the access door 2 (Fig. 6) is closed the trolleys are held between fixed stops 25 and adjustable stops 28 on the doors. Adjacent trolleys 33 are preferably joined by releasable catches (see Group XXV) to facilitate drawing them into and out of the compartment. Suitable bridges may be provided for connecting the guides in the compartment to similar guides on a vehicle. Where access to the compartment is through a side door the trolleys may be carried into the compartment from the platform of a suitable lift truck on carriages running on rollers 163 (Fig. 35) and having guides 165 which can be aligned with the guides 18 in the compartment. The trolleys 33 may carry rings for securing lashings or may be formed with catches (see Group XXV) receiving the legs of chairs for passengers. Specification 703,581 is referred to.
