467,670. Freight - carrying aircraft. GARDEN, A. D. Dec. 14, 1935, Nos. 34736/35, 35281/35, and 19833/36. [Class 4] An aircraft fuselage or body incorporates a platform adapted when the aircraft is at rest to lie in an inclined position with its lower end on or closely adjacent to the ground and forming a ramp or run-way for the loading of goods. In one form, Fig. 1, a fuselage 1 has a hold 3 of which the floor is constituted by a hinged platform 4 raised and lowered by hydraulic or other power means. Goods may be carried in standardized trucks 8. In another form, Fig. 2, a low-wing monoplane is provided with a broad shallow cantilever structure 1 provided with rails to form a loading run-way, and carrying a cabin 2 and a removable fairing 10 for the load. A turntable may be included in the run-way, access to which may be by a ramp such as 9 or by forming a part of the structure as a lift. A similar construction for a high-wing monoplane is described. Fig. 5 shows an arrangement similar to that of Fig. 2 in which a tiltable flap or ramp 9 is located between twin rudders 12. Fuselage constructions are described in which a single pair of longerons or two pairs of longerons are provided. The aeroplane may be employed as an ambulance.
