Abstract

702,998. Wire rope slings. BRITISH ROPES, Ltd. Dec. 19, 1951 [Nov. 30, 1950], No. 29337/50. Class 78 (4) [Also in Group XXV] A wire rope sling is formed from separate .two ended lengths of rope braided or plaited together. The sling may comprise eight ropes braided in four pairs, and the eye formed by splicing each pair with four tucks and two of the pairs with five tucks, Fig. 2, to give a taper at the tail of the splice. A thimble or other fitting may be inserted in the eye, and a serving of seizing wire may be inserted in the eye. A spliced endless braided sling may be made in this way. An endless sling may have a cablelaid portion over the length of the bight, Fig. 4, and the eye of a single sling may also be cable-laid. A fibre core may be inserted into the rope over the length of cable lay.
