1480826 Rope eyes; splicing ropes BRIDON Ltd 23 Oct 1975 [24 July 1974] 32747/74 Heading D1T A process for making an eye in a rope of the kind comprising a sheath in which there is a hollow inner core comprises:-(a) pulling the core 2, Fig. 3, out through a first sideopening Ys in the sheath 1 to expose a length of the core; (b) feeding the free end of the sheath 1 through a side-opening Xc formed in said exposed length of the core, Fig. 4, back towards the point Yc where the core was pulled out of the sheath; and (c) feeding the free end of the core into a second sideopening Xs in the sheath so as to extend within the sheath back towards the first opening Ys in the sheath Fig. 5. A thimble can, if desired, be inserted into the eye. A pin 3, or a knot, may be used to keep in the sheath I that part of the core 2 that is not intended to be pulled out through the side-opening Ys in the sheath. In a process for splicing together two rope ends of the above kind of rope:-(a) each rope end has a length of its core pulled out through aside opening fomed in the sheath; (b) the core CA, Fig. 8, of one rope A is fed into a side opening in the sheath SB of the other rope B; the sheath SB being fed into a side opening formed in the core CA; and (c) the core CB of rope B is fed into a side-opening in the sheath SA; and the sheath SA is fed into a side opening in the core CB. Alternatively the core CA may be interconnected with the core CB; and the sheath SA with the sheath SB.
