Abstract

597,785. Rope eyes. BRODERICK & BASCOM ROPE CO. Aug. 27, 1945, No. 21931. Convention date, Sept. 28, 1944. [Class 109] A sling, particularly a braided or plaited wire rope sling, is provided with a shackle-type end fitting comprising a plurality of, and preferably two, rope thimbles interconnected in spaced relation, end loops of the sling being fitted around the thimbles respectively. In the form shown, a metal bridgepiece 4 is welded to the inner ends of two metal rope thimbles 3 of standard form and pairs of loops 2 of an 8-stranded wire rope sling are seated in the external grooves 5 of the thimbles respectively. The loops are retained in the grooves by covering them at the outer and inner ends 6. The strands 1 are bound together near the end fitting with a wire serving 7 which is divided and wrapped as at 7a around each pair of end loops 2.
