Abstract
983,978. Cable grips. G. A. M. PETERSEN. Feb. 11, 1964, No. 5709/64. Heading F2X. [Also in Division H2] In a gripping device for a cable with a central strengthening core, the central core is held in a sleeve 16, bored to fit over the core at one end and flattened and formed with an eye 21 at the other, and the outside of the cable is held in a stocking-type wire mesh grip 17, the constituent wires of that grip being woven into a pair of eyes 23 at one end. In use, the sleeve 16 is swaged on core 14 at depressions 18. The stocking type grip is first compressed and slipped over the cable and then extended so that it contracts radially and grips it. The eye 21 of the sleeve and the eyes 23 of the grip are arranged to be in alignment and the loop 26 of the pulling rope is passed through them.
