702,947. Liquid-ring pumps; rotary engines. CHAUVIER, F. July 11, 1951 [July 11, 1950], No. 16438/51. Classes 110 (1) and 110 (2) In a pump or motor of the type comprising a rotor C eccentrically arranged within an outer hollow rotor A, an intake connection K and an exhaust connection K' for gas and peripheral projections such as a helical vane E provided on the rotor C and bounding a duct in which axial movement of the gas takes place, the outer margins of the projections dipping into a liquid ring F, the connections K, K<SP>1</SP> are part of the stationary structure and on their ,exterior support bearings L, L' for the rotor A, while the shaft M supporting the rotor C extends through the connections, at least one of the connections carrying a stationary sealing flange J or J<SP>1</SP> dipping into the ring F. The pitch of the vane E may increase or decrease towards the discharge end. In the case of a pump, both rotors may be driven, or only one may be driven, the other then being rotated by the frictional drag of the liquid ring F. The liquid ring is replenished or withdrawn through a duct H which can be rotated about its horizontal portion to adjust the position of its end. A pump and motor may be connected together to form a power transmitter giving a change of speed between the input and output shafts.
