Abstract

702,815. Valves. GILBERT & BARKER MANUFACTURING CO. March 17, 1952, No. 6862/52. Class 135 A combined check valve and strainer unit for use on the suction side of a pump, comprises a frame having a disc member 24, Fig. 2, and a ring 1 spaced apart by bars 3 around which a strainer 15 is disposed. The ring 1 is formed with a valve seat 7 engageable with a spring- loaded, non-return valve 9 having a stem 10 guided in a boss 4 connected by arms to the ring. An annular recess 22 in the ring 1 mounts a sealing ring 21 which makes a fluid-tight seal when the unit is mounted in an aperture 19, Fig. 1, in a partition 20 in the pump casing. The unit is held in the pump casing ,by a screw-threaded plug 27 and a spring 30. The valve stem 10 is formed with an enlarged portion 42, Fig. 5, screw-threadedly mounting a tubular bush 44 housing a spring-loaded valve 36 which relieves excessive pressure from the chamber 34 in the pump casing. When the valve 36 is not required the bush 44 may be replaced by a closure plug.
