Abstract

702,701. Ramps for vehicles. STRACHAN & HENSHAW, Ltd. July 25, 1952 [Oct. 5, 1951], No. 23249/51. Classes 78 (3) and 78 (4) A platform 13 for supporting a vehicle may be turned about a horizontal axis 15 adjacent a roadway 12 to bring the free end 19 of the platform into a desired relation to a fixed floor 11 : by this means the platform 34 of a vehicle may be caused to register with the floor 11 or, alternatively, the platform 13 may be positioned to permit the vehicle to run on to one of two superposed floors. In the form illustrated a girder 20 at the free end 19 of the platform carries a pair of rotatable bevel gears 22 (Fig. 3) driven through gearing from an electric motor 25 and internally threaded to engage threaded pillars 21 pivoted at 23 in a pit 32 in the roadway. Other mechanisms, including chain or rope drums, may, however be used to adjust the platform 13. According to the Provisional Specification such means may comprise chains suspending the free end of the platform from fixed pulleys and secured to nuts tracked along a common spindle driven from a motor : this subject-matter does not appear in the Complete Specification. In the form illustrated the platform 13 comprises a series of parallel girders covered by a decking 17.
