Abstract

1430969 Overhead cranes on vehicles PTH (CLITHEROE) Ltd 4 June 1974 [7 July 1973 4 May 1974] 32479/73 and 19676/74 Heading B8E The vehicle mounted overhead crane lifting device of patent 936,208 is modified by the provision of a drive unit 4, Fig. 1, which by chains 5 drives sprockets 6 which engage roller chains mounted on the vehicle platform so as to move the device along the vehicle platform. The lifting means of the prior patent may also be driven by the unit 4. In a modified construction, Fig. 5, a supporting framwork la which runs on the vehicle platform has a pivotally mounted beam 6a from which raisable and lowerably lifting means including a lifting fork is suspended and is operable by an hydraulic system as in Specification 936,208. The lifting means are movable along the beam 6a which can be swung between positions 7a extending from the side of the vehicle. The latter embodiment may be driven by a petrol engine having a starting battery charged by the engine and movable for other electrical devices such as floodlights and warning lights.
