Abstract

702,640. Thermal regenerators. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN. April 29, 1952 [May 2, 1951; Aug. 31, 1951], No. 10763/52. Drawings to Specification. Class 64(1) Wire-like or ribbon-like material forming the filling of a thermal regenerator for a hot-gas engine, heat pump, or refrigerating system is attached to the regenerator wall at substantially evenly distributed points. If the filling material and the regenerator wall are both of metal the filling may be attached to the wall by solder, which may be applied as a layer to the wall before insertion of the filling. Alternatively, the wall and filling material may be fused together by local heating of the wall. Metallic filling material may have a hydraulic diameter of between 5 and 50 microns. The filling material may be attached to the wall by an adhesive, e.g. synethetic resin. If the wall is thermoplastic it may be heated until its surface is plastic when making contact with the filling material. If the regenerator has a wall of soluble material, e.g. an acrylate resin, the regenerator and filling may be impregnated with the solvent, e.g. chloroform, which is subsequently removed, e.g. by washing with petroleum ether.
