Abstract
1,042,066. Jointing; making capacitors; composite casting; soldering. VITRAMON Inc. June 12, 1963 [June 19, 1962], No. 23328/63. Headings B3A, B3F, B3R and B3V. [Also in Divisions H1 and H2] A capacitor has at least one conductive layer 13 contained wholly within a rigid, frangible body 10, e.g. of ceramic material connection being made to it by at least one terminal lead 19 extending into a passage 16 in the body and bonded in position and cushioned by a substantial thickness of shock-absorbing material 18. A method of making this unit includes the step of inserting the lead 19 into a recess 16 of substantially larger diameter than the lead and depositing a bonding material 18 such as solder. A conductive lining 17 may be inserted in the recess and also a sleeve 21, Fig. 4 (not shown), may be placed in the lining, and the body 10 may be of a semi-hard material which is cured by heating before insertion of the lead. The bonding material may be epoxide resin, the lead being then connected to the lining 17 by direct contact 23 (Fig. 5, not shown) or the epoxide resin made conductive by the suspension of silver or other metallic particles.
