Abstract

702,319. Screw pumps. TANGYES, Ltd. (Agmed, F. R.). July 23, 1952, No. 18566/52. Class 110 (1) In a pump for liquid, sludge or the like in which the impeller 19 is normally submerged, the lower end of the impeller shaft 14 engages anti-friction thrust and journal bearings 12, 13 which are housed within a hollow cylindrical pedestal 11 which is engaged -telescopically by a cover 15 incorporating a liquid seal surrounding the shaft. The liquid seal comprises a rubber washer 17 having annular flanges 17a, 17b which engage corresponding annular grooves in the cover 15. The washer 17 is tightened against the shaft 14 by means of a hose clip 18. A mild steel thrust collar 21 on the upper end of the shaft 14 works against a bronze bearing 20.
