Abstract
700,302. Firescreens. PEARSON PAGE JEWSBURY CO., Ltd. Nov. 29, 1951 [Nov. 30, 1950]. No. 29322/50. Class 52(4) [Also in Groups X and XI] A firescreen is provided with opposed, frictional, spring-actuated gripper pads to engage the sides of a fireplace opening, manually operable means being provided for simultaneously retracting the gripper pads so that the screen may be removed from the opening. As shown, rubber pads f are mounted at the outer ends of cranked rods e which pass through bearing openings in inturned end portion a<SP>1</SP> of a metal screen a and are pivoted at opposite ends of a lever c centrally pivoted on a pin d on a bracket b secured to the underside of the screen. The pads are normally urged to their extended position by a coil spring g to support the screen in a fireplace opening. The spindle j<SP>1</SP> of a rotatable knob j is fixed to a rocker arm k which is pivoted to a link l pivoted to the lever c so that rotation of the knob in an anti-clockwise direction retracts the pads f and the screen may be fitted in, or removed from, the fireplace opening. On release of the knob the spring g automatically returns the pads to their extended position. In a modification the knob j is mounted on the pins d.
