Abstract
925,121. Photographic enlargers. AGFA A.G. Jan. 1, 1960 [Jan. 24, 1959], No. 90 /60. Class 98 (1). [Also in Group XXIV] In a photographic enlarging apparatus including an enlarger head, a support column therefor and means for moving the enlarger head with reference to the column, said means including an operating handle and a member rotatable against spring loading with reference to the column by means of the handle, the handle is pivoted to said member for independent movement against loading by an immobilizing spring for the enlarger head, and the arrangement is such that, on pivoting the handle with reference to the rotatable member, the enlarger head is freed from the column for movement with the rotatable member, on then rotating the handle and rotatable member together, the enlarger head is moved with reference to the column, and on releaseing the handle the enlarger head is immobilized in a new position and both handle and rotatable member return to their original positions. As shown (Fig. 1), the apparatus comprises an enlarger baseboard 1, a support column 3 and an enlarger head 7 adjustably supported on said column by means of a double parallelogram linkage 6. The lower arms 8, 9 (Fig. 3) of said linkage are rotatably coupled to a boss 4 (fixed on the column 3) by means of a tube 10 rigid with each arm 8 and 9 and rotatable in a bore 11 of said boss. A conical friction clutch 12 between arm 8 and boss 4 is normally held engaged by an immobilizing spring 20 attached at one end to a plate 15 and at the other end to a bolt 16 slidable within, the tube 10 but limited in its range of movement by a pin 18 passing through axial slots 19 in the tube 10 to engage an abutment surface of the boss 4. An operating handle 22 for moving the enlarger head with respect to the column is pivoted at 23 to a member 14 rotatable and axially movable on the tube 10. A forked head 24 of the handle 22 has a pin and groove coupling 26, 27 with the bolt 16. On pivoting the handle 22 in the direction 28, member 14 is first urged, by pin 23, so as to engage a conical friction clutch 13 formed between members 9 and 14 and then bolt 16 is moved axially, by pins 26, so as to remove the tension of spring 20 on boss 4, thereby releasing coupling 12, the spacing of arms 8 and 9 being slightly greater than the width of boss 4 to make this possible. The arms 8 and 9 may now be pivoted for raising or lowering the head 7 by rotation of the handle 22 in directions 29, 30. On release of the handle 22 in any position, coupling 13 is broken and coupling 12 made under action of the spring 20 and the handle 22 is rotated back to its starting position (Fig. 1) by a tension spring 31 coupled to extensions 35 and 34 respectively of members 14 and 4. The position of either one of extensions 35 and 34 may be adjusted to vary the starting position of the handle 20. The weight of the head 7 may be compensated in known manner.
