Abstract
718,296. Operating railway points. WILLIAMS, Ltd., H., and WILLIAMS, O. M. Jan. 19, 1953, [Feb. 6, 1952.] No. 3110/52. Class 104 (1). A railway points operating mechanism in which a supporting member a is secured to adjacent sleepers b and carries a vertical spindle d turnable by a hand wheel e, a horizontal lever, or a detachable spanner to operate the points through a crank arm g has at least one tension spring i anchored at one end to the crank arm g and at the other end to the supporting member a and the force exerted is such that when the spindle is turned to move the points the torque required decreases. A rod k connecting the mechanism to the points may be attached to an extension of the crank arm g as shown in Fig. 2, intermediately on the crank arm g, or to a separate arm keyed' on the spindle d. In a modification, Figs. 4 and 5, (not shown) two or more springs i are anchored at their ends to crossmembers pivotally mounted on pins h and j. A one way switch mechanism is described in which the crank is formed as a bell crank, Fig. 6 (not shown).
