700,014. Hand actuating devices for switches. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., and MILLS, R. V. Oct. 18, 1951 [Nov. 13, 1950], No. 27681/50. Class 38(5) [Also in Group XXXV] A manual switching arrangement for controlling the supply and electrode preheating circuits of a discharge lamp comprises a tandem assembly of two separate respective push button switches 3, 6 so arranged that the push button of only one is accessible for operation and depression thereof actuates both in a predetermined sequence. As shown, the switch 3 is mounted on a resilient member 10 secured to the fixing brackets 11 of switch 6, which latter may be a " micro-switch ". The switch 3 is of the " push-on ", " push-off " type and requires greater operating pressure than switch 6 which is of the type wherein depression and release of its push button 7 respectively makes and breaks its contacts. This arrangement provides that depression of button 8 initially moves switch 3 to close switch 6, followed by closure of switch 3. Release of button 8 opens switch 6 only. Further depression and release of button 8 recloses switch 6 and then opens both switches to the rest position. In modifications the physical positions of the switches may be reversed, or the resiliently mounted switch may alternatively be slidably mounted between guides.
