Abstract
654,777. Press-button retractive switches; keyboard switches. PHILCO CORPORATION. June 1, 1948, No. 14802. Convention date, June 11, 1947. [Class 38(v)] [Also in Group XXXVIII] A switching arrangement for selecting one of a number of pretuned radio circuits comprises a number of push - button switches 16...21, each having a slidable conducting member 22 normally urged to an outer "off " position by a spring 24, the nembers 22 normally being connected in series by U-shaped elements 53 arranged in base recesses between the switches. The elements 53 have contact portions 54, 55 cooperating with the right-hand edges of members 22, each of which has a recess 73 which is moved opposite the corresponding contact 54 when the push-button is depressed, so as to isolate all of the members 22 to the right thereof. The left-hand member 22 engages a contact 44 connected to earth, and each member 22 also has a recess 73a normally arranged opposite a fixed contact 50 or 70, which engages the lefthand edge of a member 22 when depressed, the earthing contact 44 thereby being connected to the corresponding contact 50 or 70 to complete a selector operating circuit. The inner end of each member 22 is bevelled at 31 and cooperates with a bevelled part 32 on an insulating slide 34, so that when a member 22 is depressed, the slide moves to the right to close a loudspeaker muting switch 37, 39, the resilience of contact 37 returning the slide 34 to its normal position when the member 22 is released. A lamp 76 is associated with each switch and is connected in circuit after its push-button has been released, an element 92 conducting the light from the lamp to the switch panel (not shown), adjacent the buttons.
