Abstract

699,368. Liquid-fuel burners. LUCAS (INDUSTRIES), Ltd., J. April 3, 1952 [April 21, 1951], No. 9339/51. Class 75(i) A liquid-fuel injection nozzle of the swirl type has combined with its outer end a means for directing a radial air flow. inwardly across the discharge orifice, and an additional means for producing a swirling air flow externally of the first mentioned means, the two means being separated by an annular spacer. Liquid fuel is supplied through passages d at the end of the body a, and passages c in a disc b, to openings f in a disc e, from which the, fuel is directed through tangential passages (not shown) leading into the swirl chamber formed by a central aperture in the disc e and a conical aperture h in a further disc g. During operation of the injector air passes through holes u in a sleeve t threaded on and spaced from the body a, and passes through the annular space s between the sleeve t and an inner sleeve k in contact with the body b. Thence the air is directed through radial grooves n formed on an end flange m of the sleeve k into the fuel discharging from the swirl chamber h. The air also passes through notches q in the edge of an annular disc o and thence through swirl grooves p on the outer face thereof. A narrow flange r around the inner periphery of disc o divides the two air streams.
