Abstract

1,195,356. Burners. PARKER-HANNIFIN CORP. 7 Feb., 1969 [1 March, 1968], No. 6764/69. Heading F4T. A fuel injection nozzle comprises a spin chamber 10, Fig. 1, into which liquid fuel is introduced through a tangential inlet opening 14 to impart a spinning motion to the liquid and from which liquid is discharged from an orifice 15 in the form of a hollow conical spray, wherein a radially inwardly-open annular groove 9 is provided in the wall of the spin chamber between the orifice and the inlet opening to trap therein contaminants from the liquid. Fuel from a spray bar 4 passes via passage 6, cross-bore 12, annular space 13 and tangential inlets 14 into spin chamber 10 and whilst spinning flows axially towards orifice 15, solid contaminants being centrifuged into groove 9. In further embodiments the groove is formed in adjacent pairs of rings (17), Fig. 3 (not shown) or (19, 20), Fig. 4 (not shown) or is integral with the spin chamber (10), Fig. 5 (not shown). The grooves may be an erosionresistant material, e.g. tungsten carbide, chromium carbide or a flame-sprayed coating.
