Abstract

699,175. Joining glass parts. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. April 10, 1951 [Jan. 20, 1950], No. 1586/50. Drawings to Specification. Class 56. [Also in Groups XI and XL (a)] Two glass parts of an electric discharge tube or incandescent lamp envelope are cemented together by the use of a solid silicone material. The joint is at a region which does not attain a high temperature i.e. above 250‹ C., during the operation of the tube or lamp. The silicone may be applied in viscous liquid form and then polymerised to form the solid cement, or it may be initially applied in solid form and then rendered plastic. For repair of the tube or lamp the joint may be broken by dissolving the cement, for example in toluene or benzene. The silicone material may be a resin or a silicone rubber. The two glass envelope parts of a low pressure discharge lamp having a tortuous discharge channel may be cemented together by the use of silicone material.
