Abstract

664,181. Discharge apparatus. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and CLACK, B. N. Jan. 23, 1950 [Feb. 8, 1949], No. 3447/49. Class 39 (i). A transparent vitreous window 9 is sealed across the aperture in a neck 2 of the glass envelope 1 of a lamp, photo-cell, Geiger counter &c., by fitting a nickel spring clip 6 in the neck flush with or slightly projecting from the flange 5, coating the flange and/or a perimeter band of the window with a thermoplastic adhesive 8, heating the adhesive and pressing the window on to the flange. The adhesive maybe a low vapour pressure wax or a solution of polyvinyl acetate in acetone. The spring clip may be replaced by a narrow thinwalled collar with a narrow inner flange facing the window.
