Abstract
1352340 Glow discharge lamps EMI Ltd 20 July 1971 [31 July 1970] 37046/70 Heading H1D A hollow cathode discharge tube has a window 2 forming a converging lens. The envelope of the tube shown comprises a glass body 1 having a quartz window 2 sealed thereto by a graded glass seal, an indium pressure seal, or a low vapour pressure adhesive. The window may be a plano-convex lens, as shown, or a separate piano-convex lens may be secured to a plane window. Alternatively, the window 2 may be integral with the envelope 1. The tube is intended for use as a reference source in spectroscopic analysis, and contains a cathode 3 made of or coated internally with a desired reference material, and an anode 5. The envelope 1 may contain argon at a pressure of a few torr.
