698,354. Thread-tensioning devices. BARMER MASCHINENFABRIK AKT.-GES. March 6, 1951 [March 24, 1950], No. 5440/51. Class 120(ii) A thread-tensioning device, for double twisting spindles, of the type comprising an upper disc superposed on a lower disc and in pressure contact with it such that the thread to be tensioned may be passed between their contacting surfaces is characterized in that the thread is angularly stored as it passes between the friction surfaces of the superposed discs and that the upper disc is not apertured and has freedom of movement which is limited radially by means which simultaneously serve to guide and lead in the thread. As shown, a tube 4 surrounding an upper disc 3 is releasably attached to a sleeve 2 carrying a lower disc 1 and capable of insertion into a spool holder .5 or into the upper end of a run-off spool. Various tensions can be achieved by upper discs of different weights or the two discs can be arranged to be magnetically attracted. In another embodiment, the upper portion of the tube 4 is made with a diameter less than that of the upper disc 3 so that the latter cannot be turned completely over when threading up. Apertures 10 are provided to allow any fibres, stripped off on passage of the thread, to pass freely out of the tube.
