Abstract

697,329. Thread-tensioning mechanism. REINERS, W. Sept. 27, 1950 [Aug. 3, 1949], No. 23649/50. Class 120(ii) Thread tensioning mechanism of the kind in which the thread F is bent around a number of braking members so that the tension is increased at each bend, includes a number of movable braking members 2 and means, e.g. springs 14, for applying a loading force thereto in such a way that the loading force is increased with movements of the braking members resulting from decreases in the entry tension 4 of the thread, and vice versa, and in which the movable braking members have, in association with the thread, natural frequencies of oscillation, over the whole range of operating values of thread tension, which are higher than the frequencies of variation in entry tension 4 of the thread. In the modification of Fig. 6, the stationary braking members are the coils of a spring 19, supported by a rod 20, the movable braking members being rods 18 supported by the thread and influenced by an electromagnet 21, 22, 24, or alternatively by a permanent magnet. A number of electromagnets may be positioned in a common circuit so that uniform thread tension may be effected in a group of tensioning mechanisms.
