Abstract

697,065. Snap-action switches. GILBERT, C. E. Nov. 1, 1951 [Dec. 26, 1950], No. 25606/51. Class 38(v) A switch adapted to be readily assembled on say a twin conductor cord, without any stripping of insulation from the conductors and without the use of terminals, comprises a casing formed in two separable portions 11, 12, the portion 11 having a channel 18 for receiving the conductors 21, 22, after one of them has been severed as at 23 and the portion 12 carrying the fixed contacts 26, 27 which are provided with points 34 adapted when the portions 11, 12 are secured together by means of clips 24 to pierce the insulation of the two ends of the severed conductor 22 and make contact with the conductor itself. The portion 12 also has a post 38 on which is rotatably mounted the operating member 28 with its stepped cam portion 42 and movable contact 29. The contacting portions 29 of the latter grip opposite sides of the cam 42 and its middle portion is provided with two inwardly projecting teeth adapted when the members 28, 29 are inserted on the post 38, to scour out a longitudinal groove in the latter. Rotation of the members 28, 29 then causes a further circular groove to be scoured out round the base of the post, which prevents removal of the members. In operation, rotation of 28 causes the contacts 26, 27 to be alternately bridged by the contact 29 and separated by the insulating cam 42.
